What is it, and why is it important?
Bet you didn't know that or might say, "Oh yeah....NOT MINE!" But truly, we are! To function at 100% and maintain good cellular function, we need food: lean proteins, clean carbohydrates, good fats, vitamins and minerals in the right amounts at the right time! Too much — we gain unwanted weight, typically in the form of body fat. Not enough — we lose valuable muscle tissue. Muscle, under activity, is ultimately what determines our metabolism. No muscle, a very slow metabolism. No metabolism, a much lower daily calorie requirement. A low daily calorie requirement, you get the idea! See how easy it is to gain undesired weight!? The good news is our bodies want to be fed! And OFTEN! 5 to 6 small meals spread throughout the day is the best way to fuel our daily activity and to feel GREAT! It is also the best way to lose body fat and maintain healthy muscle or lean mass. Calories should be made up of lean protein, clean carbohydrates, and good fats in appropriate percentages as determined by your body's needs and your preferences. A daily multivitamin is essential to insure you are getting all the necessary nutrients that even the best nutrition plan is unable to provide. Exercise is good, and ultimately necessary, but our nutrition is that important!
